I should of known better. I went to a website and intalled a codec, I have every codec possible on my computer but clicked without thinking.
Here's what it did. 1.. I cannot install programs or use windows search without my computer going to system failure/automatic restart. 2.. When I restart I have audio even though everything says that I have no audio device, mixer, input device installed. It says its not there period, then after about 20 mins. all audio ceases. 3.. made Webroot Spysweeper, Spybot S&D and System Mechanic 7 Professional Inoperable even though I reinstalled. 4.. Opera browser periodically says that files are corrupt and that I need to run chkdsk utility. I did and it did not fix this problem. 5.. Disabled system restore and deleted all of my system restore points. I'v ran Avast AntiVirus Home Edition but the problem seems to be getting worse as computer takes longer to load, like its slowly getting stupider and as of today my taskbar changes size and quickstart without permission. Any solutions would be helpful as I don't really like the idea of a clean install. To many files to save, transfer, all that fun stuff. Insert your Windows XP CD, select your partition and select "repair." You will not lose your settings or documents. It appears the codec pack you installed conflicted with essential system files that coordinate with priorly installed codecs. Next time, install the K-Lite codec pack and be sure all previous codecs are uninstalled before doing so.
